New Delhi (29.07.2025): The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) might soon see a historic first. Indianmandarins reliably learns that an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer is reportedly being considered for a Member position at NCRDC.
Intriguingly, the officer under consideration joined the service in 1990, the same year the NCDRC, a crucial quasi-judicial body in India, came into existence under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 which is now governed by the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
A Member's term at the NCDRC lasts for four years from the date of assuming charge or until they reach the age of 67, whichever comes first. It plays a crucial role in India's three-tier consumer court system, which also includes State and District Consumer Commissions.
