Going by some credible buzz doing round these days, the Modi Government may take N R Narayan Murthy (Infosys mentor) on board to study the turnaround plan of Air India. If the buzz in the air is true Air India would be next to see such experts after Railways which had constituted E Sridharan Committee (one man committee). Railway Ministry had recently roped in former CAG Vinod Rai and former DFS Secretary D K Mittal as well. Recently Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu indicated also that a very famous person (probably Ratan Tata) has been zeroed in on for the job.
Coming back to Air India, it has been witnessing some unusual, though professional, moves these days. Civil Aviation Secretary (V Somasundaran) and Joint Secretary (B S Bhullar) have been personally visiting airports to have firsthand experience about flight timings and other issues. The Civil Aviation Minister personally met the crew members last week to take note of the situation.
The ongoing appointment process of new CMD of Air India has added to the speculations that Air India would see some big new initiatives to bring the things back on the track. In all likelihood, the turnaround plan of Air India by the government may take off very soon with a top geek at the helm.
