muted-resentment-over-action-against-gkd-set-to-be-loud G K Dwivedi (IAS: 1993: AP), Joint Secretary (Foreigners), is in the eye of a storm over the renewal of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence to controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik's NGO Islamic Research Foundation (IRF). But along with him, suspension has been recommended against three more MHA officials of the levels of Under Secretary, Section Officer and Dealing Assistant for their negligence in clearing the renewal despite several ongoing probes against IRF. Meanwhile, Susheel Kumar (IAS: 1982: UP), Secretary, Border Management, has been entrusted with the task of delving deep into the details of how the FCRA licence was issued while the NGO is under intense investigation. Though several senior bureaucrats had approached Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi to express their concern but it ended with a whimper as many officials of the rank of Joint Secretary & Additional Secretary did not show solidarity in the crisis period. Though they had expressed their reservations about the government move but keeping in view the immense pressure from PMO for stringent action against such lapse, many of them eventually stayed away from openly defending Dwivedi.
