Rajni Kant Mishra (IPS:1984:UP) will replace Ms. Archana Ramasundaram (IPS:1980:TN) who will retire on 30 Sept 2017. Currently, Mishra is serving as ADG, BSF. The appointment order states that he will serve as SSB chief till his retirement on 31 August 2019. The appointment of Mishra as SSB Chief has an interesting angle. It has put an end to the persisting speculations about his appointment as UP DGP even as the state government is yet to take a final call on the appointment of new DGP or granting an extension of service to DGP Sulkhan Singh (IPS:1980:UP). Mishra's appointment as SSB chief may also calm the nerves of a number of claimants to the post of UP DGP as Mishra was considered a strong contender for the post.
