The newly formed Government in J&K has reportedly requested the center to return five IAS officers to the state government keeping in view the foreseen crises of officers in the state.
Though GoI has cleared the repatriation of three IAS officers but decision on pre-mature repatriation of Arun Kumar Mehta (IAS:JK:1988) and Atal Dulloo (IAS:JK:1989) are yet to be taken. Mehta is currently serving as Joint Secretary, Environment, Forest & Climate Change whereas Dulloo is serving as Joint Secretary, Dept of Rural Development.
J&K Government has made this request because of foreseen-shortage of officers in the state because approx 14 IAS officers are scheduled for retirement in 2015. Though the sanctioned strength of IAS officers is 137 but only 75 are direct recruitee in IAS. Due to shortage of officers, many Administrative Secretaries are carrying out the additional charge of several departments.
