Maneka Gandhi's Twitter handle on Friday posted invitations to women government employees to approach her in case their complaints of sexual harassment are not attended to. Ministry insiders say the trigger for the tweets was three specific cases that a complainant brought to the notice of the WCD minister. These related to alleged sexual harassment in the ministries of Sports and Railways. In two of these cases, the matter is pending before the internal complaints cell for two years, while in the third, the cell has dismissed the complaint despite witnesses deposing in favor of the victim. Maneka has called for a meeting of the cell heads of some ministries next week to sensitize them on the need to expeditiously resolve such complaints.
