A question that has been persistently asked in the corridors of power is whether Kiran Bedi has been exceeding her briefs as LG of Puducherry. There is no doubt that she is a strong personality and intrepid in her deeds. Delhi police department, as well as the places where she had been posted as an IPS officer, still carries tales of her missionary work. This missionary attitude seems to have set her on a course of collision as LG against a host of officials in Puducherry. It is said that even before taking the oath of office as LG, she took meetings of officers, bypassing the CM. During an election, she suspended a PCS officer. For this, she was snubbed by the election commission that reinstated him and reprimanded her for violation of the code of conduct. Next, she wrote to the Green Tribunal to take action against the Minister concerned and the chief secretary.The judge snubbed her in open court for this. Further, when she reportedly withdrew the financial powers of the CM, the MHA dumped her order in the dustbin. She also reportedly demanded action against the Chief Secretary, but the MHA is said to have ignored her advice. All of this has made political parties demand her recall. But yet, all it emanates from her decades old professional commitment and sincerity and strong personality.
