New Delhi (06.03.2022): Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has released a book on the life of former IPS officer BS Bedi at Kerala House, New Delhi. The book -- A Life Uncommon – B.S. Bedi -- authored by Preeti Singh, daughter of the former DGP, is a compilation of personal and professional experiences of Dr. B S Bedi (IPS (Rtd DGP):1961: UP) by his daughter.
Dr. Bedi belongs to the 1961 batch of IPS officers and served with great distinction in various challenging postings within and outside Uttar Pradesh. He is known to Hon’ble Governor for over 50 years and holds Dr Bedi in high esteem. During his illustrious career as a police officer, Dr. Bedi proved his mettle as an outstanding, fearless, and honest officer due to his balanced and effective style of policing.
Considered one of the most dynamic and legendary IPS officers of his time, he was selected for two Inter-State deputations -- first as DIG Jalandhar Range in 1985 during the height of militancy in Punjab, and then in 1992 as DGP Jammu and Kashmir where he was given the responsibility of tackling the grave situation arising out of uncontrolled militant activities.
After his police career, Dr Bedi served as a Member of, the UP Public Service Commission and thereafter returned to the world of academics. The program started with a rendition of the National Anthem, a welcome address by Simrit Chhabra and an introduction of the book and author by Satbir Bedi (IAS (rtd): 1986) daughter of BS Bedi. The author also shared her journey of compiling her father’s personal and professional experiences with the audience followed by the reading of some passages from the book.
In his address, Hon’ble Governor recollected his long association with Shri Bedi since he was a student at the Aligarh Muslim University. He spoke about Shri Bedi’s unparalleled capabilities as a police officer. He always believed that discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. He was well known for his honesty and hard work. Shri Khan said that officers’ actions should pass the tests of transparency, ethics and probity to be truly effective and Bedi Sahab exemplified the same. He remains an icon in the IPS for his professional competence and integrity. Shri Khan also appreciated Shri Bedi’s love for Urdu poetry and his post-retirement academic pursuits. He congratulated Dr. Preeti Singh for lovingly compiling her father’s life story.
