As Indianmandarins had anticipated on March 11 (web-link below) A K Kapoor (IRSEE:1978) appointed as new Member (Electrical) Railway Board & Ex-officio Secretary to the Govt of India. With immediate effect he took over the charge yesterday. PMO had cleared his appointment on April 05 itself but it took a day for Railway Board to issue his appointment orders. Prior to this Kapoor served as GM, Kolkata Metro.  Reportedly, P K Srivastava (IRSEE:1977), DG, RDSO, too was front runner for the top job. In his new stint Kapoor replaces Navin Tondon (1976:IRSEE) who superannuated on December 31, 2015. Since January 01 this year Pradeep Kumar (Member, Staff) held the additional charge of Member (Electrical). Initially the post was kept vacant as the railway Minister had proposed to scrap the post in January first week. But this was turned down by the PMO.
