Indicating that Indians suit its bill, Daikin, a Japanese air-conditioner maker, has appointed Kanwaljeet Jawa as MD and CEO for its India operation.
According to a press release issued by the company, Jawa will be the first Indian on the Daikin Industries board and will be part of the ten member board council that will steer the future of Daikin globally.
As per Daikin's strategy, this has been done to include leadership from emerging markets and promote ethnic and gender diversity on their boards.
"Today, Daikin Industries Limited finds significant contribution from overseas businesses led by local management across the globe," the release said.
Toshio Nakano, chairman at Daikin Air-conditioning India, said the appointment is a move as per the Daikin corporate governance code to make boards more open to gender balance and people with international background.
