The Jharkhand government may increase the retirement age of doctors in the state health services in view of acute shortage of doctors to fill the current vacancies.
With repeated advertisements failing to attract doctors from Jharkhand and across the country, the state health, health education and family welfare department has decided to increase the retirement of existing doctors to 66 years from the present 60.
Health minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi said "The proposal has been prepared by the department. We will be putting it up before the state cabinet very soon."
Explaining the move, Chandravanshi said: "What do we do? There is a shortage of doctors in Jharkhand. We are giving out repeated advertisements but are not being able to bring doctors to fill the shortages."
