Indianmandarins has reliably learned that the Election Commission of
India may consent to the appointment of a new Chief Secretary of Jharkhand.
Accordingly, the state government has prepared a list of senior cadre officers
from which one could be picked up for the appointment after the incumbent Chief
Secretary Sudhir Tripathi (IAS:1985:JH) completes his second extended tenure
day after tomorrow. It is further learned that among the names forwarded for clearance for
the post of CS to the ECI are D K Tiwari (IAS:1986:JH), Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi
(IAS:1987:JH) and Sukhdeo Singh (IAS:1987:JH), though reportedly the name to be
announced is almost clear. However, since the last two terms, the appointment of CS was marked by
abrupt twists leaving everyone guessing about the decision-making dynamics in
the state, officials aren't venturing any guess. This time, though, the situation appears clear as most of the
prospective senior IAS officers, except Binod Kumar Tripathy (IAS:1983:JH), are
posted at the Centre holding key posts. Among the latter are DFS Secretary
Rajeev Kumar (IAS:1984:JH), I&B Secretary Amit Khare (IAS:1985:JH) and NHAI
Chairman Nagendra Nath Sinha (IAS:1987:JH). B K Tripathy, retiring in August this year, has already missed the
chance and is ruled out for the post. Further, the incumbent Union Home
Secretary Rajiv Gauba (IAS:1982:JH) has already decorated the coveted post of
CS in Jharkhand and is among the top candidates in the watchlist for
appointment as the next Cabinet Secretary in June this year.
