Union budget will be presented on February 1, 2020 but budget session will start from January 31. The small session of Parliament will have big issues to deal with for the government. Several issues to watch out for:

  1. Union budget is the biggest issue with low GDP growth rate and high inflation at the core. Possible tax rate cut to woo the middle class and increase spending to boost the sluggish demand.
  2. There are also talks about spending more money in rural and agricultural sectors.
  3. CAA is another issue that is likely to rock Parliament proceedings. The BJP too is latching on the issue to take on opponents.
  4. The issue of unemployment will also be taken up in Parliament as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is pitching for it
  5. Police atrocities in Uttar Pradesh too will be the issue on which the opposition try to corner the government
  6. The government is keen to attract more investments and improve the ease of doing business in India aiming to clear the remaining three labour code bills in Parliament.
  7. Lok Sabha would have to brace for long hours in the House as Speaker Om Birla is likely to stretch daily proceedings well into the evening.
  8. Lunch in Parliament will no longer be cheap from March 2020 as rates for food items will be revised to eliminate subsidy.
