New Delhi: Be it at the Centre or State, civil servants at coveted posts are chosen to ensure continuity and stability in the administration. But the decision that the Kamal Nath Govt took on Thursday late evening defies both but protects his own Govt’s interest.

The Kamal Nath Govt in January 2019 picked V K Singh as State DGP and removed within 14 months announcing V K Johri as Singh’s successor. Johri virtually concluded his seven months brief tenure as BSF DG. 'Nath' has recalled him from Centre to cadre state to take over as State DGP.

What draws attention is the reason which led to the abrupt shunting of V K Singh by his own ‘Nath’. For a long time there were buzz that the Kamal Nath government would remove DGP V K Singh. But why?

The incident that took place in January this year appears prime reason. Confrontation between the IAS and the IPS in the Rajgarh case had made a dent in Singh’s image. A rally in support of CAA in Biaora in Rajgarh district in which District Magistrate Nidhi Nivedita allegedly slapped an assistant sub-inspector.

Reportedly, the IAS lobby supported the collector whereas DGP Singh asked the DSP to file a report after the investigation.

The enquiry report sent to the Home Department, held the Collector guilty which became bone of contention between the IAS and IPS. Those in the know of the affairs told Indianmandarins that the so called abrupt decision taken by ‘Nath’ was nothing but a logical culmination of IAS vs IPS. Though one can not deny few other internal issues which often decide the terms between political masters and the civil servants occupying position and power.
