The HRD Ministry is said to be finally working on a note for Cabinet approval to set up as many as 20 'World Class Institutions' on the basis of public feedback. Probably the biggest change in the draft regulations, based on public feedback, is said to be in the name of proposed institutions. Instead of calling them 'World Class Institutions', it has opted to name them as 'Institutions of Eminence'. May it be recalled that the government was roundly criticized for proposing a presumptuous tag such as 'world class' without any of the selected institutions even figuring in the top 100 in the world ranking.
