The DoPT, with the approval of personnel minister Jitendra Singh, wrote to the attorney general on Tuesday, saying it was prepared to resume awarding promotions since many cases are pending in courts. Once we get a signal from the attorney general, the promotions can be resumed for CSS officers.

"CSS officers, many of whom became eligible for promotion six years back and some of them retiring without promotion, are demoralized due to the lack of career advancement. This is the reason that the DoPT has approached the attorney general for legal advice on going ahead with promotion orders despite pending challenges in the court, sources said.
