New Delhi (08.09.2025): After a distinguished career spanning nearly six decades, Dr U  S Awasthi, the former Managing Director and CEO of IFFCO, has officially retired at the age of 80. Dr. Awasthi stepped down from his role on July 31, 2025, concluding a 58-year-long journey in the fertilizer industry.

Dr. Awasthi’s career began in 1967, and he went on to serve as Chief Executive for several major organizations, including Pyrites, Phosphates and Chemicals Limited (PPCL) and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (RCF). He spent the last 32 and a half years of his career at the helm of the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO).

In an emotive letter to colleagues, farmers, and associates, Dr. Awasthi expressed his gratitude for their support throughout his tenure. "I have decided to superannuate from my role at IFFCO on July 31, 2025, at the age of 80," he wrote. "It has been an honour to serve IFFCO for over 32 and a half years. I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support and cooperation I have received throughout my professional journey."

He also reflected on the valuable relationships he built over the years, from engineers and administrators to world leaders. "Over the years, I have been fortunate to forge enduring friendships across diverse fields," he noted. "These relationships have enriched both my professional and personal life beyond measure."

Dr. Awasthi concluded his message by reaffirming his dedication to the agricultural community and the nation. "Though I am stepping down from formal responsibilities, I remain committed to serving the farmers, cooperators, and the nation, especially in the field of environment protection," he stated. "Please feel free to reach out to me anytime should you feel that I can be of any assistance. My doors are always open for my dear friends."
