Gangajal scheme washes away objections
Shortly before he was transferred out of the Post and Telecommunications Ministry, Ravi Shankar Prasad introduced and implemented the idea of selling bottled Gangajal from Gangotri and Rishikesh at post offices.
Bureaucrats in the Ministry initially feared that it may set off a flood of consumer complaints in case things go wrong and may increase their workload.
Reportedly, they also secretly planned to drop the scheme after Prasad's departure. However, the response to the scheme has been a thundering success; and new MoS Manoj Sinha is going the whole hog to carry forward the scheme. Sinha and Prasad launched the sale of Gangajal jointly in Patna last week.
