As expected Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth has been given six months extension who's extended tenure is completing on December 13.
The extension has brought twists in the trail of Cabinet Secretary after A K Seth. In the month of June there were three contestants for the top post; Alok Rawat (IAS:1977:SK), Saurabh Chandra (IAS:1978:UP) and Pradeep Kumar Sinha (IAS:1977:UP). By the month of September Rajeev Mehrishi's (IAS:1978:RJ) name emerged as the next contender of Cabinet Secretary.
After Rawat was moved from the Department of Water Resources to Department of ARPG it became clear that he was out from the race. Saurabh Chandra will retire on April 30 next year whereas Seth will be continuing Cab Sec till June 30, 2014. By the month of June the Budget (2015-2016) process would be absolutely over clearing the deck for Rajeev Mehrishi for top job. Power Secretary P K Sinha's scheduled retirement (July 2015) would also keep him firm in the race of Cabinet Secretary in the end of June 2015.
Meaning hereby, the decks would remain clear at least for Mehrishi and Sinha. The trail of speculation would continue till June 2015.
