New Delhi (02.02.2022): Former Union Secretary of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Tarun Kapoor (IAS:1987:HP) finally emerged victorious in the race for the Chairman of Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB); a much sought after post among retiring civil servants and top executives across oil & gas sector.  

Kapoor was the most prominent name in the list of 13 persons who had applied for the top job at the oil and gas regulator. Former GAIL directors Gajendra Singh and A K Tiwari are presently the two members of the PNGRB board.

It may be underlined that the post was re-adverted in November 2021. In the first round of the selection process, held in June 2021, former power secretary Sanjeev Nandan Sahai (IAS:1986:UT) was selected by the Search Committee headed by V K Saraswat, Member (S&T), Niti Aayog however Sahai’s selection was not confirmed by the government, and the post was re-advertised in November 2021.
