New Delhi (03.02.2021): Indianmandarins has learned that eight officers from the 2003 batch of Indian Foreign Service (IFS) may be empaneled and approved this week as Joint Secretaries. This follows the empanelment of 41 officers from the 2003 IAS batch of IAS on December 30, 2020. Reportedly, the cadre-controlling authority of IFS was ready with its list a little earlier than the empanelment of the 2003 Batch of IAS but the DOPT was of the view that a gap of at least one month be maintained in the empanelment process between the IAS and the IFS. So when a month passed on 30 January 2021, the file of IFS cadre was set in motion. Of the eight IFS officers being considered for JS empanelment all but one, Devesh Uttam (IFS:2003), is posted in India and the rest of them are currently on foreign posting. It is also learned that the MEA is keen to have more Joint Secretaries to meet the requirements of new embassies and consulates being set up in several countries. (By Rakesh Ranjan)
