If some top sources are to be believed it is unlikely that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would welcome the idea floated by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. The MP on Sunday told to mediapersons that he has written a letter to PM suggesting Enforcement Directorate (ED) be shifted from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Who’s who in power corridors are perplexed over the scenario, circumstances and timing which would have necessitated the move taken by the parliamentarian. Those who have been working close to the top authorities apprehend that on such crucial and tricky issues PM Modi has his own views, ideas, opinions.

In his letter to PM the parliamentarian has reportedly argued that most of the cases registered under FEMA are for those offences which come under the IPC or  the Arms Act and  Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He underlined that under the present system ED could not independently register a case under the PMLA and it has to mandatorily take cognizance of a case registered under other laws like the IPC, NDPS or the Passport Act among others. He cited well the case of shifting the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to the MHA from Finance.
