ECI to conduct biennial and by-elections to 27 Rajya Sabha seats on June 18

NEW DELHI (01.06.2026): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on June 1, 2026 announced the schedule for the biennial and by-elections elections to 27 seats of the Rajya Sabha. Former Prime Minister H D Devegowda, Union Ministers George Kurian and Ravneet Singh Bittu are the Members who are completing their terms next month. The 24 seats where biennial elections will be held included: Four in Andhra Pradesh, five in Gujarat, two in Jharkhand, three in Madhya Pradesh, one each in Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, and four in Karnataka.

Notification has been issued by the ECI and the polling will be held on June 18, 2026. The counting of votes will take place on the same day. The Commission also announced the Rajya Sabha by-poll for one seat each in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The seats are vacated by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar and AIADMK MP C V Shanmugam, who were recently elected to the State Assembly. The by-poll will also be held on the June 18.
