NEW DELHI (22.05.2026): Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced elections to 24 Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states which will be held on June 18, 2026. The 24 seats are set to be vacated in June and July upon the completion of the term of the incumbents where elections have been announced. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda from Karnataka too will be completing their respective tenures.
These 24 seats include four in Andhra Pradesh, five in Gujarat, two in Jharkhand, three in Madhya Pradesh, one each in Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, and four in Karnataka.
The BJP had 106 members and the NDA had 137 including the seven nominated members by the President. But after seven Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha members joining the BJP, these totals have gone up to 113 and 144, respectively. By year-end, with over 24+ 6 seats falling vacant, the BJP is expected to gain at least five more seats, inching closer to the two-thirds majority mark of 163. Now, according to the updated list, the Congress has 29 members, while the Trinamool Congress holds 13 seats. The DMK has 8 members, followed by the YSR Congress Party with 7. The Biju Janata Dal has 6 members, and the AIADMK has 5. The Janata Dal (United), Samajwadi Party and Nationalist Congress Party have 4 members each.
