ECI orders WB govt to revoke transfer orders of 3 IAS officers involved in SIR

New Delhi (29.01.2026): The Election Commission of India (ECI) and the West Bengal government are at loggerheads yet again after the former ordered state Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty (IAS: 1994: WB) to withdraw the transfer order of three electoral roll observers during the ongoing SIR process.ECI secretary Sujeet Kumar Misra wrote to Chakraborty, stating the transfer orders should be “cancelled”, and future orders should “get prior ECI concurrence”.The state government had recently transferred, giving additional responsibilities to IAS officers Smita Pandey (IAS: 2005: WB), Asvini Kumar Yadav (IAS: 2001: WB), and Randhir Kumar (IAS: 2006: WB).
