As Indianmandarins had reported earlier (weblink below) Rupak Kumar Dutta (IPS:1981:KN) will take over as new DGP of Karnataka from his batch-mate Om Prakash (IPS:1981:KN) who is set to superannuate tomorrow (31 Jan 2017). Dutta, Special Secretary (IS) in MHA, had missed the opportunity last week to become CBI Director. Karnataka Govt had always been keen to opportune him with the top job in the state but while appointing Om Prakash as DGP in January 2015 it overlooked on account of him being in the CBI; especially because Dutta too had been aspiring for CBI chief post. Dutta is the senior-most in-service IPS officer from Karnataka.
