Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that Karnataka Govt may name Rupak Kumar Dutta (IPS:1981:KN) as new DGP of Karnataka immediately after the Republic Day celebration would be over. The outgoing DGP Om Prakash (IPS:1981:KN) is scheduled to retire on January 31.
Dutta, currently Special Secretary (IS) in MHA, missed the opportunity last week to become CBI Director. It is believed that Karnataka Govt too is keen to opportune him with the top job in the state. In January 2015 Dutta was eligible to be Karnataka police chief but was overlooked on account of him being in the CBI.
Dutta is the seniormost in-service IPS officer from Karnataka and Congress government is known for honoring seniority in appointment of most of its top bureaucrats.
