DoPT: 8.72 lakh vacancies exist in Central government departments

3096New Delhi (05.02.2022): There are 8.72 lakh vacant posts in various central government departments. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) gave this information to Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Rout in reply to his question in Rajya Sabha. The DoPT said the total vacancy in central government departments in the year 2018 was 6.83 lakh, 9.10 lakh in 2019 and this number was 8.72 lakh in 2020. The DoPT said that UPSC, SSC, RRB are making recruitments every year against vacancies. Total 38827 recruitments was done in 2018-19, 1,48,377 in 2019- 20 and 78,264 in 2020-21 and the total figure is 2,65,468. DoPT said that filling up vacancies is a continuous process. Government issues instructions to all the Ministries/ Departments from time to time for timely and advance action to fill up the unfilled posts.
