The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a "special audit" of IndiGo, Jet Airways and SpiceJet. In the second phase, other airlines like Air India and GoAir may be audited. The order is prompted by the need to ensure the overall operational safety and airworthiness of passenger planes.
Sources said the exercise is part of the DGCA 's preparation for its upcoming audit by United Nation's aviation watchdog, ICAO. It is clarified that the audit is not triggered by the regulator discovering any fault in the functioning of airlines.
