New Delhi (05.10.2024): If some well-placed sources are to be believed the Government of Uttarakhand may pick Deepam Seth (IPS: 1995: UD) as the next DGP of the state; a key position that has been under ad hoc arrangement since Asok Kumar (IPS: 1989: UD) retired on 30.11.2023. Currently, Abhinav Kumar (IPS: 1996: UD) is holding the additional charge of the head of the police force w.e.f. 01.12.2023.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has sent a panel of three names to the state government which is all set to pick as a regular DGP any time now. The UPSC’s panel includes Deepam Seth (IPS: 1995: UD), Dr P V K Prasad (IPS: 1995: UD) and Amit Sinha (IPS: 1997: UD). Acting DGP Abhinav Kumar is not included in this list.
Currently, Deepam Seth is serving at Centre as ADG in Shasatra Seema Bal (SSB) whereas PVK Prasad is the Director of Prosecution and Amit Sinha is ADG, Administration.
Earlier, a minimum 30 years of service was mandatory for DGP's position. Under new UPSC rules for DGP appointments, an IPS officer with 25 years of service is eligible for this position.
