Dr Darez Ahamed (IAS:TN:2005) received PM Excellence award in Public Administration (for Yr 2012-2013) for "Save Girl Child". The then District Collector of Perambalur (Tamil Nadu) won PM's recognition for his exemplary service which resulted into the increased sex ratio (number of live births of girls per 1,000 boys) from 851 in 2011 to 1016 in year 2013. While contacted; one of his colleagues informed 'Indianmandarins' that in addition to his multipronged approach Dr Darez had made full efforts to keep tab on prenatal diagnostic centres.
In year 2011 also CM Jayalalitha had presented him award in recognition of the district's expeditious disposal of petitions received from the CM's Special Grievances Cell.
