Even though foreign secretary S Jaishankar is scheduled to retire in January next year, speculations are already rife about his successor as well as the extra-pensionary benefits that he may be granted for having successfully crafted and implemented NaMo's foreign policy. While the selection of the successor will be made through the due process of seniority, competence, and political acceptability, it's about his post-retirement rehabilitation where there is maximum curiosity.
It's rumored that he may be accommodated in NSA Ajit Doval's office. But Doval is believed to be a tough guy who does not like anyone getting into his turf unless he wants it. Further, Doval is considered not only an expert in internal security but also in foreign policy. It's pointed out that it's his policy of offensive defence that has sent Pakistan squirming on the Baloch question posed by NaMo.
