Thiruvananthapuram (14.04.2023): The Kerala high court on April 13, 2023 ruled that charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was made out against Sreeram Venkitaraman (IAS: 2012: KL) in a road accident case that resulted in the death of journalist KM Basheer in 2019.Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas partly set aside the sessions court order which had discharged the IAS officer from the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 and destruction of evidence under section 201 of the Indian Penal Code.The sessions court had discharged Venkitaraman for the offence under Section 304 IPC as there was no medical report indicating he was drunk at the time of the accident.
