Mumbai (06.09.2025): Though both bureaucrats and politicians work by taking pledge on the Constitution of India but many a times they are at loggerheads for reasons better known to them only. They have their own versions to defend themselves. When Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar decided to make a video call to IPS officer Anjana Krishna after she did not recognise him, the Dy CM’s tone was threatening to the IPS officer who was inquiring into an alleged illegal sand mining case.
A local NCP (AP) leader called up Dy CM and handed over the phone to the Dy CM who spoke to her but she did not relent as there was not permission for the mining as per the claim made by NCP (AP) leader. Moreover, people involved in the mining failed to produce documents in support of their claim of having permission from the Gram Panchayat. But this is neither the first case nor the last one. There had been cases in the past when bureaucrats and politicians locked horns in similar case when UP cadre IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal clashed with the local Samajwadi Party politicians in Greater Noida over illegal mining issue and she was suspended by the then UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Similarly, a BJP MLA clashed with an IAS officer and Bhind Collector Sanjeev Srivastava in Madhya Pradesh recently and there had been two cases in Karnataka where an IAS officer was compared with Pomeranian dog and in another case a woman IAS officer was called Pakistani agent by BJP MLAs. All these are intimidation tactics by politicians and in certain cases they threatened to settle score with bureaucrats after coming to power if they are in opposition.
The case of Anjana Krishna took a new turn when NCP (AP) MLC, Amol Mitkari, has written to UPSC to enquire into educational and caste documents submitted by the IPS Officer, who is a native of Kerala. This is also intimidation tactics, however, there was a case in Maharashtra where an IAS officer was found fake document to get reservation benefit in her UPSC examination.
The Dy CM is being accused of bullying and intimidating the IPS officer who was allegedly obstructed and prevented from performing her duty.
