Senior Delhi Police officials who recommend a transfer of subordinates from one district or unit to another will now have to provide documents to prove the latter's merit. The practice of recommending names for transfers has often come under scrutiny following allegations of favouritism and vested interest, sources said. A circular regarding this has now been issued and henceforth all such recommendations will be monitored by Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma himself. Senior officials pointed out that though the provision already existed in the rule book, it was hardly applied. Delhi Police has a computerized system named Automated Transfers and Postings (ATP) for officials below sub-inspector level. For ranks above that, the system remains manual.
