CIC Attains Full Strength With RK Goyal as Chief Information Commissioner; Eight ICs Appointed

New Delhi (13.12.2025): As Indianmandarins reported earlier (CLICK TO READ) the Central Information Commission (CIC), the apex appellate body under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, is finally set to operate at its full capacity after the appointment of the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and eight Information Commissioners (ICs) received the President’s assent.

As anticipated, Raj Kumar Goyal (Retd. IAS: 1990: AGMUT), who recently retired as the Union Secretary for the Department of Justice, has been appointed as the new Chief Information Commissioner.

The President of India is scheduled to administer the oath of office to R K Goyal at 11 a.m. on Monday at the President House. Following his own induction, the new CIC will administer the oath to the eight newly appointed Information Commissioners.

The new Information Commissioners, who bring a wealth of administrative and professional experience to the commission, include:-

Jaya Varma Sinha (Retd. IRTS: 1987), former and first woman Chairman of the Railway Board.
Swagat Das (Retd. IPS: 1987: CG), former Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat.
Surendra Singh Meena (Retd. IAS: 1993: JH).
Sanjeev Kumar Jindal (Retd. CSS officer: 1989), formerly an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Khushwant Singh Sethi (Retd. IFoS: 1990: TR), Distinguished Fellow, TERI, and former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force (HoFF), Government of Tripura.
Sudha Rani Relangi, former Member (Legal) of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).
