Information Commissioner Bimal Julka has been appointed as CIC. President of India Ram Nath Kovind administered oath of office to Julka as the CIC in the Central Information Commission. However, there are five more vacancies information commissioners after Julka takes over as the CIC. The transparency watchdog has been functioning without a CIC after Sudhir Bhargava retired on January 11, 2020 and is at a reduced strength of six information commissioners, against the sanctioned strength of 11 including the CIC.
