Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that a major administrative shake-up is on the anvil.
The PMO is said to have identified 1984 & 1985 batch IAS officers (empanelled as secretary) for ten Secretary rank posts - of which six are already awaiting new occupants and have been put under stop-gap arrangements whereas two posts are scheduled to fall vacant in the next 08 days.
DoPT Secretary Ajay Mittal (IAS:1982: HP) and HRD Secretary (Dept of Higher Education) Kewal Kumar Sharma (IAS:1983: UT) will demit office on February 28.
It is worth underlining that two posts of secretaries fell vacant in Depts of Panchayati Raj and Parliamentary Affairs following the retirement of J S Mathur (IAS:1982:MP) and Rajeev Yadav (IAS:1982: AM) on January 31 this year.
It may be mentioned that secretary-level posts in Depts of Animal Husbandry and Chemical & Petrochemicals fell vacant after the premature repatriation of Devendra Choudhary (IAS:1981: UP) in January and Rajeev Kapoor (IAS:1983: UP) last week.
Similarly, the posts of secretaries of Dept of Health Research (MoHFW), Border Management, and Inter-State Council have been vacant for several months.
Since the NaMo administration has shown a tendency to effect lateral shifts of serving secretaries while appointing new secretaries against vacancies, it is believed that a major overhaul is on the anvil.
