New Delhi (04.09.2025): In a significant leadership change in the power sector, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Bhupender Gupta as the new Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited, a Schedule 'A' Navratna CPSE.
Gupta, who currently serves as Director (Technical) at THDC India Limited, and has also been holding the additional charge of CMD at SJVN since May, is set to take charge as the new head of the hydroelectric giant this week.
He will succeed Raj Kumar Chaudhary, who retired from the position on June 30, 2025. Gupta's appointment comes at a crucial time for NHPC, which is focusing on expanding its renewable energy portfolio and strengthening its hydro-power projects across the country.
With his extensive experience in the sector, Gupta is expected to bring continuity and strategic direction to NHPC's ambitious growth plans. His dual role at THDC and SJVN has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities within India's power landscape.
