New Delhi (07.05.2026): Ashu Shinghal has assumed charge as Chief Executive Officer of GAIL Gas Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of GAIL (India) Limited. Prior to taking over the new role, Shinghal was serving as the Managing Director of Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL).
A Mechanical Engineering graduate from National Institute of Technology, Silchar, he also holds an MBA with specialization in Operations Management. He joined GAIL as a Graduate Engineer Trainee in 1991 and rose through the ranks to become Executive Director, handling key portfolios including Corporate Strategy, Planning & Advocacy, Risk Management, Total Quality Management and Sustainable Development. He also served as the Chief Risk Officer of the company.
With over 35 years of experience in the hydrocarbon sector, Shinghal has worked extensively in large-scale project execution related to cross-country natural gas pipelines, petrochemicals, city gas distribution and LNG projects.
During his tenure at MGL, the company recorded significant growth, including doubling of revenue and market capitalisation, achieving its highest-ever profit after tax, and registering record growth in domestic PNG connections, CNG stations and sales volumes. He also led diversification initiatives in compressed biogas, LNG transportation and battery manufacturing through subsidiaries and joint ventures.
Shinghal has also been closely associated with GAIL’s strategic decision-making processes and stakeholder engagement initiatives under the natural gas advocacy programme involving multilateral organisations, industry associations and think tanks. As Chief Risk and Strategy Officer at GAIL, he managed price, index and currency risks under LNG contracts impacting the company’s bottom line.
