Syed Akbaruddin, the incumbent MEA Spokesperson, has been assigned to with the new task of India-Africa Forum Summit as Chief Coordinator. The summit is scheduled for October 29 this year. Akbaruddin, a 1985 batch IFS officer, is waiting in the wings to be empanelled as Additional Secretary after which he would be fully eligible to hold some big ambassadorial assignment by the end of the year.
