With the fast approaching date of superannuation of Dr. Mahesh Chandra Mishra , Director of AIIMS, the search for his successor appears to have gathered momentum with as many as 49 applicants found eligible for screening.
Dr. Mishra is scheduled to superannuate on January 31, 2017. According to the appointment guidelines for AIIMS, the Director's post should be advertised six months in advance. But the delayed advertisement and an increase in the retirement age of doctors to 65 yrs had triggered speculations that AIIMS Director's retirement age could be increased to 70 yrs - which finally proved to be a rumor.
