New Delhi (07.01.2026): Ending months of administrative speculation and industry conjecture, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Tuesday officially cleared the appointment of Vishwanath Suresh as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of MOIL Limited.
Suresh, a former SAIL top executive, who currently serves as the Director (Commercial) at NMDC Limited, will lead the Nagpur-headquartered Schedule ‘A’ CPSE until his superannuation on August 31, 2030, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The ACC’s endorsement provides much-needed stability to the leadership ranks of the Ministry of Steel enterprise. The move effectively silences "whisperings" within the power corridors regarding a potential delay or bleak prospects for the leadership transition, which had been the subject of intense debate in recent weeks.
The road to the top spot began on October 4, 2025, when the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB)—the government’s premier head-hunter for public sector units—shortlisted Suresh from a pool of high-profile candidates. His transition from NMDC to MOIL is seen as a strategic move, given his extensive experience in the commercial operations of one of India’s largest mining majors.
As the incoming chief of MOIL, the country’s largest producer of manganese ore, Suresh will be tasked with spearheading the company’s ambitious expansion plans and enhancing domestic production to meet the growing demands of the Indian steel industry.
