New Delhi (09.05.2024):The Punjab government issued a notice to former IAS officer Parampal Kaur instructing her to resume her duties. Failure to comply would result in disciplinary action against her. The order was issued to Kaur days after the Government of India informed the state government that they had accepted the resignation of the IAS officer following Section 3 of All India Service rules.
Parampal Kaur, a Punjab-cadre IAS officer, had joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in April. Just before joining the BJP, she had submitted her resignation to Chief Secretary Anurag Verma (IAS: 1993: PB). However, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann did not accept her resignation. Despite this, she proceeded to join the BJP and was subsequently named the BJP candidate for the Bhatinda Lok Sabha constituency, drawing criticism from CM Mann. Mann publicly questioned her decision, stating that her resignation had not been accepted.
Reportedly Kaur said that her resignation has been accepted by the Centre. Now the state government may take action whatever it wished to as she is not going to retract her decision of contesting Lok Sabha poll.
