Government of India has received over
6,000 applications for ten positions of joint secretaries offered to experts
from private sector. This selection of joint secretaries from private sector on
contractual bass is an initiative of Modi government to inject talent in
bureaucracy. These ten vacancies for the post of joint
secretaries were declared by the Ministry of Personnel as part of lateral entry
programme. The response was amazing as 6,077 applications have been received
for the ten positions of joint secretary. Now, the scrutiny of applications is
going on. These ten posts of joint secretaries are in revenue, financial
services, economic affairs, agriculture and farmers welfare, road transport and
highways, shipping, environment, forest and climate change, new and renewable energy,
civil aviation and commerce departments. The ministry had fixed July 30 as
deadline to apply for these positions.
Niti Ayog had proposed in its three-year action
agenda 2017-20, that it is essential to induct specialists into the system
through lateral entry on a fixed-term contract.
