5-year-term-for-raw-and-ib-chiefs-on-cards A fixed five-year term for the head of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) as well as Intelligence Bureau is said to be under fresh consideration, following the Cabinet Secretariat, which administers the agency, backing in August 2015 a 2013 proposal to extend the tenure of their services from the current two years to five years. It is learnt that the move to renew the UPA proposal for extending the RAW chief tenure was initiated on the advice of National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. The Secretary (Research), as the RAW chief is officially known, works under direct command of Prime Minister and reports on a daily basis to NSA. A two-year term for RAW chief was fixed in 2005 along with the same terms of tenure for Director of Intelligence Bureau, Defence Secretary and Home Secretary. In 2010, it was applied to the Foreign Secretary as well. If RAW chief's tenure is extended to five years, the tenure of at least IB Director may also be extended to the same length.
