392-posts-of-hc-judges-vacant-administered-justice-mired-in-njac As of today (Sept 25, 2015), the posts of as many as 392 high court judges, or about 40 per cent, remain vacant against the sanctioned strength of 1,017. Of 392 vacant positions, 254 are for Permanent Judges (HC) and 138 for Additional Judges (HC). Besides, three posts of Judges in the Supreme Court have not been filled as yet. Just one example of pending vacancies in high courts is sufficient to prove the point that even if the two branches of the government are doing their best to ensure governance the third branch of the government (Judiciary) is simply constrained to deliver the way it wants to. Reason; HCs are plagued by acute shortage of judges. There is apparently no attempt, and if there is one it's not visible at all, to improve the country's system of administered justice. That it is caused by stalemate on the issue of the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) could be a good explanation, but it may not put the appointing authorities in glory.
