As many as 291 bureaucrats are on foreign postings and five of them have overstayed their tenure, according to the information tabled by Union Minister Jitendra Singh in Rajya Sabha on Thursday. He said most of these 291 officers are on deputation to posts or assignments in foreign countries. Five officers, whose approved tenure ended during the last three financial years, have overstayed without the approval of the competent authority, he said in a written reply. He added that "an extension in deputation tenure may be allowed to officers to align their tenure with the end of the academic session of their children or functional requirement."
