Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that as many as 15 General Managers serving in several Public Sector Banks are likely to be appointed as Executive Directors.
Since many posts of EDs are scheduled to fall vacant during the current year, the government seems to be in the mode of advance planning to fill these posts as soon as they fall vacant. Hence, a selection interview was conducted last month and 15 names were shortlisted and recommended to the Govt for final appointment as Executive Director.
The shortlisted candidates are Debashish Mukherjee, Matam Venkata Rao, Krishnan S, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Yaduvanshi, Lingam Venkata Prabhakar Murali Ramaswami, Balakrishna Akse S, Chaitanya Gayatri Chinthapalli, Govind N Dongre, H Bhaskar, Kul Bhushan Jain, Ajay Kumar Srivastava, Rajesh Jindal, Atul Kumar, and Birupaksha Mishra.
There is an urgency to fill senior-level posts in PSBs because of the huge NPAs of Rs 08 lakh crores, which the banks have to recover through insolvency route. Already insolvency proceedings have been initiated against some of the top companies like Bhushan Power and Steel, Electrosteel Steel, etc, which owe as much as Rs two lakh crores to public and private lenders.
