As Indianmandarins had reported first on 20 January 2017 (Weblink below), the race for the top post of Delhi Police has narrowed between two 1984 batch-mates - Dharmendra Kumar and Deepak Mishra.
With the appointment of Delhi CP Alok Kumar Verma (IPS:1979: mindspaceUT) as CBI Director, the top post has fallen vacant which has virtually obsessed who's who in the power-corridors. Of the three main contenders, two senior probables Dharmendra Kumar and Deepak Mishra are serving as ADG in CISF and CRPF respectively on deputation whereas their junior officer Amullya Kumar Patnaik (IPS:1985: UT) is serving as senior most officer in Delhi Police.
But there has been a buzz that one cannot rule out the possibility of a twist in the appointment of next Police Commissioner. Sources say that MHA has supposedly been sounded that it should limit its thinking on appointment to the present seniority list in Delhi Police. This may suggest that even though Patnaik is junior to the two main contenders, he is senior most in Delhi Police and his prospects for the additional charge of Delhi CP for three months couldn't be ruled out.
